There is immediate cause for concern regarding the delicate balance on which humanity and our ecosystem are perched. Over population and pollution are tipping the scales toward doom. One fourth of the population is using three fourths of the planet’s resources. People are discouraged and feel helpless. We see war constantly in media and wonder how we will ever learn to work together to save the planet while we still build weapons to destroy each other. Sounds like a scary science fiction film, but it is in fact the state of our planet.
To counteract this path toward destruction, we must stop competing for the status of who has more, learn to consume less, and build communities on a cornerstone of sharing to form strong relationships—which is truly what we all want. It is this message that I intend to spread through the medium of motion pictures. I will create movies that make viewers turn off the screen, then go connect with nature and their inner being. I want people to make their own movies, and be an action hero who takes a leading role to manifest a better world for everyone in reality, instead of just being a passive observer watching other people’s dreams unfold on screens in fantasy.
The FAR OUT School is a non-profit organization that promotes personal goal setting and environmental awareness by encouraging art and adventure. Through FAR OUT trips and community projects, accomplished artists and adventurers team up with individuals seeking positive influences and exciting experiences. To amplify the effect of our success, FAR OUT activities will be recorded on digital video for broadcast through the web and television. New Brunswick will greatly benefit from the spotlight we’ll shine on local talent, and general awareness of our beautiful province, which will inherently boost tourism.

Director’s Notes
Although my passion is to create documentary style films, this project will be "dramatic in nature," not factual, and yet it will still feature my strengths--creating and capturing powerful actual events. My vision is to make two previews to movies that don’t exist, by splicing together scripted scenes with moments in reality, and mixing narration with short sound bites of dramatic dialogue. The previews will have coherent threads telling the story, but it will mostly be eye candy to spark the imagination, leaving the viewer wanting more.
The purpose of this short film is to offer a taste of my capabilities as a director and cameraman to acquire funding for future FAR OUT projects, including filming the rest of my journey by kayak around North America. The film will be available for download off my web site, and submitted to the Banff Mountain Film Festival and the Short Film Channel. It may be a long shot, but to reach our target audience, I will also attempt to show this film on Much Music and at movie theaters, as if they were real previews.
Synopsis
The first preview, Spelunkers, follows a half dozen youth crawling into a nightmare as they explore a massive cave system. In the dark unknown, the group splits-up and find themselves in different variations of tribulation and splendor. A huge cavern will be found and illuminated with candle light. There they set up base camp, make music, and play shadow puppets. Some kids will explore side tunnels alone and others will go off in pairs. Flashlight batteries will go dead, someone will get hurt, and someone will freak out due to claustrophobia. They will get thirsty from a lack of drinking water, and nearly drown in a chamber flooding with muddy water. A ceiling covered with bats and a surprise visit from another type of animal will add extra excitement.
The fake documentary style, shot by the characters themselves, will be reminiscent of Blair Witch, except with more attention on capturing quality images. Footage will be shot in eight different locations, but it will appear to be one huge cave system. In the final scene, each kid will exit the cave from a different hole in the ground to symbolize the out-comes from the different paths we choose, and the narrator’s voice will say, "You’ll never know what you might find… until you dare to go look!"
The second preview, Action Hero Training Camp, will share inspiring highlights of a summer camp for youth seeking direction, as they get high on steep cliffs and push their limits in sea kayaks. Spectacular scenery will be complimented by a magical sound track to create a heavenly view of life on earth and a sense of optimism. Music will be recorded during the trip, around the camp fire and trail-side. In addition to the very talented musicians who will lead jams and instruction, campers will be challenged to express their feelings and experiences through song and poetry. Each person on the trip will also have access to a camera to record their personal moments and make video journals.
The focus of Action Hero Training Camp is personal development and empowerment. We want people to take our ideas and create their own adventures. Imagine a panorama observing a dozen silhouettes practicing Tai Chi on a low tide mud flat reflecting a blazing sunset and cotton candy clouds. Anybody in southern New Brunswick could go to the beach at dawn or dusk and stretch themselves… both physically and mentally, but very few do. As director, I will choose characters for specific roles, and place them in dramatic scenes, but I’m sure that many of the best moments will occur and be captured spontaneously. As the production progresses, I will be open to possibilities for scripted dialogue from all members of the cast and crew.
